Volunteer on a Committee

To learn more about being an active committee volunteer, read the descriptions for each committee below to get an idea of the type of work you will be doing. When you decide which committee(s) interest you, submit the form at the end of the page and our current chair will follow up with next steps and answer any questions you have.

Committee volunteers can expect to attend at least four committee meetings and volunteer a few hours of their time contributing to committee projects each month. To volunteer, you must be an current member of WWRA.


Wildlife Education Committee

  • Improve animal welfare and standards of care by cultivating working relationships with wildlife rehabilitators, veterinary professionals, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Provide opportunities for wildlife rehabilitation professionals to collaborate on, learn about, and teach the principles, challenges, and advancement of wildlife rehabilitation.

    • Disseminate information pertinent to the profession of wildlife rehabilitation.

    • Provide an environment conducive to networking and building communications between Washington wildlife rehabilitators, state and federal agencies, and other individuals or organizations in wildlife-related fields.

    • Remain current on rehabilitation training opportunities and make these opportunities available to the rehabilitation community.

    • Offer continuing education opportunities to wildlife rehabilitators throughout Washington State.

    • Design and implement a diverse program to cover any aspects of wildlife rehabilitation for participants of all experience levels.

    • Provide WWRA members with resources to support the integrity, professionalism and credibility of their work in the field of wildlife rehabilitation.  

    • Promote membership and participation of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other animal health professionals in WWRA and encourage engagement with wildlife rehabilitators.

    • Promote active dialogue between WWRA members and other entities (NPOs, governmental agencies, etc.) invested in the welfare of Washington’s wildlife. 

    • Support the WWRA mission and help facilitate collaborations between wildlife rehabilitators, governmental agencies, accredited zoos and aquaria, universities, nonprofit organizations, and individuals engaged in wildlife rehabilitation, veterinary medicine, post-release studies or wildlife health research.

    • Maintain active involvement in and awareness of legal issues, rules, regulations, and policies which affect wildlife health and wildlife veterinary medicine.

    • Act as a resource for government and regulatory agencies working with wildlife and wildlife rehabilitators.

Membership Services Committee

  • Foster and support the members of WWRA.

    • Foster new and recurring membership in WWRA.

    • Annually reassess criteria and make recommendations for any changes to the WWRA Board.

    • Annually reassess long and short-term committee goals.

    • Maintain an accurate directory of current members’ status and dues, including name, address, phone number, license/permit information, areas of interest/specialty, membership type, and date of membership.

    • Alert members regarding membership renewal.

    • Connect new members with resources relevant to their needs and area of interest.

    • Maintain list of lapsed membership for historic purposes.

    • Assist other committees in concerns regarding membership needs and benefits.

    • Prepare and distribute committee year-end report to the President.

    • Promote NWRA, IWRC, and other organizations, events, and trainings of benefit to members.

    • Update and maintain content on WWRA website pertaining to member benefits, resources, announcements, and events.

Board Development Committee

  • Develop a board of directors comprised of engaged and committed members with the strengths and qualifications to ensure effective operation of the organization.

    • The Committee identifies and recruits new Board members annually to ensure that Board membership remains at the level set in the By-laws.

    • The Committee annually evaluates the Board’s composition for effectiveness, and identifies, recruits, and recommends candidates for Board membership based on Board needs, areas of expertise desired, and/or connection to the WWRA community.

    • The Committee oversees orientation, education (via online or in-person continuing education opportunities), and self-assessment programs for directors.
