Prospective Board Member Information

Thank you for your interest in serving on the WWRA Board of Directors. Board members are non-paid positions that are elected by the membership and are working positions, not honorary positions. 

The WWRA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization formed in 2003 that acts as a collective voice dedicated to advancing professional wildlife rehabilitation in Washington State through education and community building. The WWRA supports the science and profession of wildlife rehabilitation and its practitioners through: 

  • Fostering continued improvement of wildlife rehabilitation.

  • Disseminating knowledge through meetings, reports, publications, symposia, and other means.

  • Providing support to its members through networking and mentoring.

  • Promoting educational programs, teaching natural history, and explaining the kinship among all living things.

  • Promoting cooperation between professional and governmental agencies, wildlife rehabilitators, and the public at large.

Board Duties

WWRA Board positions are working positions. The term of office is three years. Board members must: 

  • Control and manage the organization, its activities, and finances.

  • Uphold the By-laws and policies, and elect the Executive committee officers.

  • Attend and participate in the conference and Board meetings held throughout the year.

  • Volunteer for and accept committee assignments.

  • Assist with trainings, classes, conferences, and other WWRA events.

  • Devote time to further the mission, guiding principles, and purposes of the WWRA.

  • Answer Board business correspondence, when necessary, between the meetings.

  • Notify the President in advance, by phone, text, or email, if unable to attend any of the Board meetings.

Nominee Requirements 

  • Nominees must be voting members of the WWRA prior to their nomination.

  • Nominees have been or are currently actively involved in wildlife rehabilitation.

  • Nominees must have an active email address to participate in Board business.

  • Nominees must be capable of participating in telephone or video conferencing.

  • Nominees must be willing to be an active, hands-on working Board member.

  • Nominees must be willing to hold office and use their expertise and interests while serving on the Board.

Election Procedure

To be selected as a candidate for the Board of Directors election, each applicant will need a 50% + 1 yes vote by the WWRA Board Development Committee. A committee member may interview the applicant by telephone. The Board Development Chair will contact applicants concerning selection as a candidate for the WWRA Board of Directors election. 

Nominees approved by the Board Development Committee shall be submitted to the membership for election. Ballots containing names of nominees and biographical information will be sent via email to all current WWRA members. Election will be by a simple majority vote of the members responding by secret electronic ballot. Each candidate must receive a 50% + 1 vote of the membership to be elected. Ballots will be counted on November 30. Election results will be announced to the WWRA membership by email, Facebook, and on the WWRA website in January.
